RAMU’S BUFFALO

Ramu’s buffalo is the most different among his friends. She obediently listens to his stories and jokes, lets him sit on her trunk, and bathes with him. She even gives him two glasses of milk everyday and never complains. Therefore he began calling her Santi.

Santi lives in the shed. Ramu takes her to grass fields whenever he decides to play after finishing his homework. She bears the most beautiful eyes and her horns are so smooth that everyone wants to feel them. Her tail is long and she uses it to brush off flies from her back. While munching grasses, she shows her greened tongue and frightens Ramu’s friends.

Sometimes, Ramu likes to ride on Santi to school. All the villagers in the road smiles at Ramu and pats on Santi’s back. When they reach near school his friends and teachers point and wave them cheerfully.

During classes, he lets Santi wander and gaze around the school compound. Occasionally, peering out through classroom windows he searches for her. He tries to draw pictures of Santi during boring lessons. Ramu’s best pal Raju loves to hover from behind and looking at Ramu’s drawings laugh with his mouth open.

During tiffin break, Ramu and his pals reproach Santi and try various magic tricks upon her. They even imagine Santi as a jeep and imitate an action sequel of a film they loved. Ramu would be the inspector and his friends the fugitives. The lessons after lunch become lazy and Ramu often feel like napping.

After school, Ramu allows his friends to ride on Santi. On the way back, the friends chat and discuss about their meeting and the games they would play in evening. Upon reaching his home, Ramu gently massages over Santi and leaves her in the shed. He will ask new tricks from father after dinner, he decides.
